Dr. James J. Santiago
Over 25 years experience. Chiropractor, Acupuncturist & Sports Medicine Physician
Chiropractic and Acupuncture is in Dr. Santiago's blood. He was raised through the principles of alternative health care from the day he was born, for both parents were chiropractic physicians, acupuncturists, physical therapists and naturopathists.
His first chiropractic check-up was the day he was born. His first acupuncture treatment from his parents came from a sports related injury when he was in high school in 1973. Just prior, in that same year, his parents traveled throughout Asia studying acupuncture on one of the first medical visas allowed between China and the United States after former President Nixon visited China.
After graduating from Rutgers University in 1978, James enrolled in the New York Chiropractic College, graduating in 1982. He then continued his studies in Sports Medicine and obtained his diploma in the field in 1993.
In 1994 he was appointed by the NFL Players Association to treat the New York Giants, and he was inducted into the International Federation Sports Chiropractic Society.
Dr. James Santiago began his acupuncture studies in 1995 at the Tri-State Institute of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in New York City and graduated in 1998.
In 1999, Dr. James J. Santiago was invited to and worked at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs as a chiropractor and an acupuncturist. It was here that he treated United States and visiting countries' Olympic medal athletes.
After his participation, he was also invited to the United States Olympic Sports Medicine Society and continues to be a member today.
Dr. Santiago began his private practice in 1983 in Iselin, New Jersey working with his mother, Vivian, and his sister, Joanne, also a chiropractor (currently practicing in Avon, CT). In 1985 he began working in Newark with his father as well. It is in Newark, New Jersey where he took over the practice when his parents passed away in 1993.
His parents were such early pioneers in the alternative health care field that this gave Dr. Santiago fabulous training and education; an experience that he values greatly.
His passion besides treating and helping his patients is also raising his two children Ariana and James along with his wife Dawn.
